Meinl Cajons

Meinl Cajons

You've probably ever heard of cajon. One of the most popular musical instruments of recent times, used in various genres of music, but especially in all acoustic performances. Cajon in translation means a box. Musical instruments made in the past from cabinets, drawers and other scraps originate in Peru. Musical instruments have also been developed in Cuba over the years, from similar props, most often from cigar boxes. They were used for parties, dances and events. Many years later, percussion makers are among the leaders, including MEINL, whose importer Music Max has developed the cajon as we know it today. Most of the cajons are box-shaped and made of wood, and the better cajons are also made of solid wood. A non-playing board is usually thicker than a so-called 'tapas' board, which is thinner because of the better response and resonance of the instrument itself.

There are three main styles of cajons, Peruvian style, Spanish or Flamenco style, their feature is that they have strings or snare mesh clamped on the board and a rum cajon playing as a conga. Of course, there are many other styles of cajons, for example: bongo cajons, top cajons, etc.
Flamenco guitarist Paco De Lucia and his percussionist Rubem Dantas contributed greatly to the popularity of the cajon, which allegedly brought cajon to Spain and used it in flamenco music.
