Dowina - guitars with soul

Dowina guitars are guitars with soul. Let us tell you some facts about why this is so.

The old Dowina Castle - present-day Devin - is located at the junction of the Danube and Morava rivers, between Bratislava (Slovakia) and Vienna (Austria). The name Dowina means a girl in ancient Slavic language. Today, the castle ruins are a reminder of an era of glorious glory and are a shining inspiration for sensitive artists. This magical place also gave birth to Dowin guitars. Guitars are derived from this famous castle and its heritage.

The history of Dowin guitars began in 1979 in Devin, a village with the establishment of a violin workshop overlooking the castle. Then came the concept of unique guitars, inspired by the violin maker’s knowledge, experience and intuition. Each guitar is complete and individual. Since 2010, Dowina has been moving into their larger property in Devin's New Ves, which includes a manufacturing center, warehouse, store and administration. 20 employees, half of them directed by the rest of the workshop. They make only 2000 guitars a year, which means they have a great deal of quality control. 55% of them sell in the US .. the rest in Western Europe .. DE, F, NL, .. in Slovakia they are left with practically nothing. It should be emphasized that Maestro is a trained master and an exceptional expert in wood. Wood, however, is the basis for a good instrument.

It all starts with the choice of materials used. Crucial to the guitar sound is the acoustic quality of the top plate and the grip, which requires excellent rigidity with little weight. As a standard, they use either a selected Alaska sieve or cedar. In addition, they use selected spruce from the Dolomites - Val di Fiemme in Italy. Among other top features, this spruce has an extremely acoustic "A" ratio. For technical reasons, this is the ratio of the speed of sound through wood (m / s) to the density of wood (kg / m³), to a phenomenal 16.0 m4kg-1s-1. This number is up to 35% better than standard spruce. (e.g. German Spruce, Engelmann Spruce and the like). No wonder Stradivari, Amati, Guarneri and other famous violinists used dolomite spruce from Val di Fiemme.

Solid top Antique series - Puella, Rustica, Marus and Danubius models. They are designed as a universal musical instrument for everyday play and exercise.

Vintage series. Their names are not randomly assigned, but are inspired by local varieties of wine - Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet. The advanced guitars of the Vintage series satisfy even the most demanding musicians. Those who appreciate the superior sound of guitars, just like a sommelier, appreciate premium wine. They are individually created using a similar production philosophy to that of a master violin.

Among other secrets, this means:

- Excellent choice of tone wood

- Each guitar resonant plate is treated individually according to the structure and characteristics of the particular piece. The thinning of the edges to give the guitar a more "deep" sound.
